"Come," he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"

-Matthew 14:29-30

But now, this is what the LORD says—
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

-Isaiah 43:1-2

Camp/Tour 09

Wake United is hitting the road this summer and traveling to a lake near you. The Wake United tour is set up to teach day clinics in your town, on your lake! We spend the day with people coaching wakeboarding, hanging out, and talking about Jesus Christ. We want to show kids and adults that you can worship God through every aspect of your life, including Wakeboarding.

Wake United is traveling to North Carolina and Virginia Lakes and rivers this summer!

We also offer private individual and group lessons in a fun and relaxed setting designed to help you progress your wakeboarding at an affordable price!

We would like to invite you and your Youth Group to join us one week this summer for a few days of fun, sun, and fellowship out on the lake. At a cost that is significantly less than any other wakeboard or water ski school, we offer top-level instruction in a fun and safe environment. We believe wakeboarding is about fun and fellowship, there should never be any pressure on someone trying to learn.

Summer 2009

-Impact Summer Retreat

The Amazing Race

1 Corinthians 9:22-27
To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the Gospel that I may share in its blessings. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others; I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Wake United had the opportunity to be apart of the 2009 Summer Youth Retreat held by Providence Baptist Church on their trip down to Lake Marion, SC in Summerton, SC for the Impact event.

The retreat was held at beautiful Camp Bob Cooper during the week of June 22-27.  Camp Bob Cooper is a camp in Summerton, SC that is run by Clemson University housing about 300 students and counselors each week.  The camp offers many different activities for campers to choose from, which included a high ropes course, paintball, canoeing, soccer, basketball, archery, skeet shooting, and boating.  Wake United was able to be apart of this amazing camping experience, working with the boating department for the camp.

The week was amazing!  We were blessed to be apart of such an amazing church camp experience.  The theme of this year’s camp was “The Amazing Race”, focusing on the idea of preaching the Gospel to the ends of the earth and fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.  Each day during the week, campers and their counselors participated in different events based on the hit TV show The Amazing Race, competing for their family groups to see who could win the outright competition at the end of the week.

The speaker for the week was a Mr. Finny Matthews, the president of Alpha International Ministries (AIM).  Finny was born to missionary parents in India and endured hunger, hardship, and persecution with his parents in a hostile mission field.  His passion for Jesus has helped AIM plant more than 1,000 churches and send 537 pastors and church planters to different parts of the world.  Throughout the week, Finny spoke twice daily to the youth (ranging for 6th graders to 12th graders) about the importance of taking the Gospel to every part of the planet, sharing the goodness and grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Leading the worship for the week was the Carl Cartee Band.  Carl and his band were amazing!  Each night, we could really feel the presence of God entering the worship center as he lead the group of 300+ students and leaders in songs and praises towards God!

Overall, it was a great week for Wake United being able to be apart of the camp.  We really enjoyed hanging out with the students, camp staff, and counselors throughout the week, sharing our own testimonies and how God has been working in our lives!  Students and counselors were both impressed at the idea of taking our two passions: Jesus and water sports, and putting them into one great idea – Wake United!

Special thanks to Providence Baptist Church for giving the Wake United Team an opportunity to be apart of this amazing camp.  The youth pastors: Steve Wright, Joel Smith, and Blake Hickman.  The camp directors for the week Mr. and Mrs. Gardner. The boat department leaders, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell.  Thank you to Mr. Newton for all of his hard work and long nights behind the scenes.  And a big thanks to the audio and video team, Jason and John, for documenting the memories of the 2009 week!  Thank you to the recreation team and all of their hard work behind the scenes making the camp run smoothly.

The counselor staff for the week consisted of an amazing group of young adults and adults that spent the entire week loving, ministering, and dealing with the young campers…  Big thanks to them!  Praise God for their patience!

Thank you to the staff at Camp Bob Cooper for serving so diligently with servant’s hearts!  Without them, the camp would not get fed and the residents would not have food to eat.  Thank you to the cleaning and operations staff for keeping the camp looking the way it does.

It was truly a blessing to see and hear about students this week coming to know Christ.  That is what this week is all about, and that is what our entire lives need to be about!  Sharing the Good News, the Gospel, so that others may be saved and have the amazing hope of getting to spend eternity with our amazing God!  Praise Him for the newest members to the Christian family.

And most importantly, we want to give thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; for without Him, nothing is possible!  It is by His grace and mercy that we are alive today, having the opportunities to enjoy fellowship and ministry.  Praise God for a great week, and we look forward to being apart of this great ministry next year for Impact 2010!
